History of the company dates back to 1897. Mr. Julius Guth then converted an old mill in Rokycany into a small hardware-manufacturing factory. Soon after, in 1906, the company had 115 workers on the payroll and in the following period until the WWII, foundry production gradually gained the ground.

After the war, the Škoda Works bought the factory but soon after the February 1948, the company was independent then nationalised and in 1951, it was established a base for the STS Rokycany to be developed, an establishment to provide servicing and development of mechanical equipment of the agriculture undergoing collectivisation then. This assignment, with repair service prevailing and a small proportion of engineering production in small series, was performed by the company until the early 1990s. In result of social changes, it proceeded to essential restructuring as the demand in repair business declined dramatically.

After privatisation in 1993, a new production programme was developed based on engineering production. SMS s.r.o. is currently an engineering, production and supplier company in the industry of mechanical engineering and process equipments for environment, agriculture, construction and transport.
